Hiring a nanny is a significant milestone for any family, and preparation can help ensure that your new nanny’s first day goes smoothly! Before your nanny’s first day, you’ll want to set clear expectations, encourage a positive working relationship, and make sure your child feels comfortable with their new caregiver.

If you’ve just hired a professional nanny, follow this guide to ensure a successful start for your family and new nanny.

1. Establish a Warm Welcome

Your nanny’s first impression of your home and family sets the tone for your relationship. ’s important to make them feel valued and comfortable by:

  • Giving a house tour and pointing out important areas (nursery, kitchen, emergency exits, etc.)

  • Introducing them to your child(ren) in a warm, welcoming environment

  • Allowing time for your new nanny to bond with your child(ren) before jumping into responsibilities

  • Providing a written welcome note with key details they may need to reference later

2. Prepare a Nanny Binder or Welcome Packet

To encourage confidence and set your nanny up for success in their role, provide a detailed resource guide that includes:

  • Daily schedule & routines (meals, naps, playtime, school pickups, etc.)

  • House rules & discipline guidelines to maintain consistency

  • Allergy & medical information (emergency contacts, doctor’s number, medications, etc.)

  • Preferred activities & child interests to help them engage with your child(ren)

  • Household responsibilities (light cleaning or meal prep expectations if applicable)

This reference guide helps your nanny to feel prepared and aligned with your family’s values from day one!

3. Discuss Expectations & Communication Preferences

Clear expectations prevent misunderstandings and create a strong foundation for a successful nanny-family relationship. On the first day, discuss:

  • Preferred communication methods (text updates, daily logs, weekly meetings)

  • Discipline philosophy & parenting style (how to handle tantrums, boundaries, and rewards)

  • Emergency procedures (when to call you and what to do in urgent situations)

  • Flexibility & overtime policies (if occasional late nights or schedule changes are expected)

Encouraging open communication from the start helps build trust and ensures that both parties feel comfortable addressing concerns as they arise.

4. Consider a Trial Run or Shadow Day

To ease into the transition, consider scheduling a half-day shadow session where your nanny observes your family’s routines before taking full responsibility.

  • Allow them to shadow you through the daily routine

  • Encourage them to interact with your child in small ways (reading a book, playing a game)

  • Provide feedback and answer any questions along the way

  • Gradually step back to allow them to take the lead while you observe

A trial run builds confidence for both your nanny and your child, making the first full day smoother.

5. Set Up the Home for Success

Make sure your nanny has everything they need to provide great care by setting up:

  • A stocked diaper bag or childcare essentials (diapers, wipes, snacks, bottles, etc.)

  • Household keys, security codes, or entry instructions

  • A first aid kit & emergency contacts in an easy-to-find location

  • Designated play areas with toys, books, and activity supplies

  • Backup transportation details if they will be driving or using public transport

A well-prepared home makes it easier for your nanny to focus on caring for your child rather than searching for necessities.

6. Foster a Positive Child-Nanny Relationship

This is arguably the most important step! Your child(ren) will be spending a lot of time with this person, so you want to make sure your child(ren) and new nanny have a positive relationship! For children, adjusting to a new caregiver can take time. Help facilitate a smooth transition by:

  • Talking about the nanny positively before they arrive

  • Letting your child choose an activity to do with the nanny on the first day

  • Allowing space for one-on-one bonding time

  • Keeping goodbyes short and reassuring to avoid unnecessary anxiety

Some children warm up quickly while others may take a bit longer, so be patient and encourage a natural bond to develop.

7. Be Available for Check-Ins

While your nanny will be taking the lead, being accessible on the first day helps answer questions and provide reassurance.

  • Let them know they can text or call you if they need anything

  • Plan a mid-day check-in to see how things are going

  • At the end of the day, sit down for a brief recap and encourage feedback

Providing support and encouragement helps your nanny feel comfortable and confident in their new role.

8. End the Day on a Positive Note

After your nanny’s first day, take time to acknowledge their efforts and reflect on how everything went.

  • Express appreciation for their hard work and enthusiasm

  • Ask how they felt about the day and if they have any questions

  • Provide constructive feedback in a supportive way

  • Discuss any minor adjustments needed for a smoother experience moving forward

Building a strong working relationship from day one ensures that your nanny feels valued and motivated to provide the best care for your child.

Let the snowy adventures begin!

Snowflake Art Extravaganza

Embrace the beauty of winter indoors with a flurry of snowflake-inspired art projects. From delicate paper snowflakes to salt-painted snowflake scenes, let the children's creativity sparkle and shine.

Outdoor Snow Sculptures

Turn your backyard into a winter wonderland by engaging in an outdoor snow sculpting adventure. Encourage the little ones to create snowmen, snow angels, animals, or imaginative figures, which can foster both creativity and appreciation for the winter landscape.

Cozy Blanket Forts

Transform a chilly day into a cozy haven by constructing blanket forts. Add fairy lights, soft cushions, and storybooks for a cute reading nook or a magical space for imaginative play.

Winter-Themed Baking

Warm up the kitchen with winter-themed baking projects. From snowman-shaped cookies to hot cocoa cupcakes, involve the kids in creating delicious treats that capture the spirit of the season.

Ice Skating (Indoor or Outdoor)

Whether you have access to an outdoor rink or create a makeshift one indoors using wax paper, ice skating is a delightful winter activity that promotes both exercise and laughter. Some cheerful music will also help create a fun atmosphere to glide to. Also, don’t forget to be as safe as possible while doing this activity.

Indoor Obstacle Course

Winter Wildlife Watching

Set up a cozy spot by the window with binoculars and guidebooks to observe winter wildlife. Birdwatching, in particular, can be a fascinating and educational activity as various species visit your backyard.

DIY Winter Decorations

Channel the spirit of the season into craft time by making DIY winter decorations. Create string popcorn garlands or fashion ornaments that reflect the beauty of winter.

As we venture into this winter wonderland of possibilities, may these activities bring warmth, connection, and magical moments. Here's to a season filled with shared joy, creativity, and the magic of winter's embrace!

Choosing the ideal gift to express your heartfelt appreciation for your nanny can be a challenge. To make it easier, we’ve curated a questionnaire to help you come up with thoughtful gift ideas.

Let’s celebrate the amazing caregivers in our lives!

Questionnaire

First, here are some important questions to ask that can help you to figure out the best gifts for your nanny.

  1. Birthday Month & Date

  2. Favorite Color

  3. Favorite Coffee or Tea Drink

  4. Favorite Sweet or Savory Treat

  5. Favorite Flower

  6. Favorite Hobbies

  7. Favorite Restaurants in Town

  8. Favorite Places to Shop

Heartfelt Gift Suggestions

  • Thank you letter

    • A nanny’s job can be both daunting and exhausting. Writing a heartfelt thank-you note expressing your gratitude and appreciation for their hard work and dedication would be a lovely gesture.

  • Kid’s crafting

    • Appreciate your nanny’s hard work by creating a handmade gift with your children would be a very memorable gift to the nanny. Pour that love out!

  • Date Night Treat

    • If your nanny has a partner, treat your nanny to a night out at the cost of a date night for them and a loved one. It would be lovely and refreshing for the nanny! Surely, it would be a night that they are looking for!

Managing a Household When There’s a Stay-at-Home Parent: Tips for Nannies and FamiliesJadyn KorantengMon, 21 Oct 2024 19:32:12 +0000/blog/managing-a-household-when-theres-a-stay-at-home-parent-tips-for-nannies-and-families6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:6716a8a6935c2a38333fa5bb

Balancing household dynamics when there’s a stay-at-home parent and a nanny can be both rewarding and challenging. While the stay-at-home parent’s primary focus is often on managing the household, the nanny’s role revolves around caring for the children and assisting the household. To maintain harmony, clear communication, boundaries, and respect for each other’s roles are essential.

1. Clarify Roles and Responsibilities

One of the most important things to establish from the start is who is responsible for which tasks. ’s easy for tasks to overlap or for expectations to get muddled, especially when both the stay-at-home parent and the nanny are both present. Have an open discussion to clarify:

  • Who’s responsible for specific tasks (childcare, meals, errands, etc.)?

  • How are household chores divided (e.g., child-related vs. non-child-related tasks)?

  • What are the expectations for supervision when both are home?

Addressing these questions together helps prevent any confusion and ensures that everyone’s efforts are aligned.

2. Respect Each Other’s Space and Time

When a stay-at-home parent and a nanny are working under the same roof, it’s crucial to respect each other’s space and time. The parent might want time to focus on things outside of direct childcare while the nanny needs to maintain authority and rhythm when caring for the children.

Establishing designated times for the stay-at-home parent to step in and out of parenting duties can help the nanny manage the children without any mixed signals. ’s also helpful to schedule a few moments each day to check in with each other.

3. Emphasize Teamwork

When there’s a stay-at-home parent involved, it’s easy for the nanny to feel like they’re stepping on toes or for the parent to feel like their job is being taken over. The key to success here is embracing teamwork. ’s important to remember that both roles exist to serve the family, and collaboration makes everything run smoother.

Encourage ongoing communication—check in about schedules, routines, or anything related to the children’s development. Regular check-ins allow both the parent and nanny to stay on the same page, which ensures that all needs are being met without crossing any boundaries.

4. Avoid Undermining Each Other

Both the stay-at-home parent and the nanny have valuable insights into the children’s needs and development. ’s essential that both parties are on the same page when it comes to discipline, rules, and overall parenting style. If the nanny and the parent aren’t aligned, it can create confusion for the children.

To avoid this, have regular conversations about expectations. If the stay-at-home parent needs something done differently, it’s best to bring it up in private rather than in front of the children to avoid undermining authority or sending mixed messages.

5. Celebrate Wins Together

At the end of the day, both the nanny and stay-at-home parent share the same goal: creating a happy, healthy, and supportive environment for the children. Don’t forget to celebrate wins together—whether it’s the baby reaching a new milestone, successfully managing a packed day of activities, or simply having a smooth week.

Recognizing each other’s hard work goes a long way in building mutual respect and keeping the household running smoothly.

Why Nannies Aren’t Housekeepers: How to Set Clear Expectations With FamiliesJadyn KorantengMon, 21 Oct 2024 19:08:49 +0000/blog/why-nannies-arent-housekeepers-how-to-set-clear-expectations-with-families6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:6716a6c136f942652af1d07d

As a full-time nanny, your focus is on the care, development, and well-being of the children in your charge. However, one common challenge many nannies face is the blurred line between nanny duties and housekeeping responsibilities. It's crucial to communicate with the family and ensure that your role as a nanny doesn’t become a housekeeper role.

The Role of a Full-Time Nanny

A nanny's primary responsibility is to provide dedicated care to the children, whether that means planning activities, ensuring the children's safety, or supporting their emotional and educational growth. While light tidying related to the children (cleaning up after meals, organizing toys, or doing the children’s laundry) often falls within this scope, deep cleaning and household management tasks usually do not.

Full-Time Nanny vs. Family Assistant

’s important to distinguish between being a nanny and a family assistant. A family assistant typically combines nanny duties with broader household management tasks, which can include errands, meal preparation for the family, and more extensive housekeeping. If you’re hired specifically as a nanny, these additional responsibilities should not be assumed or expected.

Open Communication Is Key

If you’ve noticed that more and more household tasks are creeping onto your to-do list, it’s time to have a conversation with the family. Politely and clearly explain to the family that while you're happy to help out in ways that directly involve the children, tasks like deep cleaning, organizing the household, or running non-child-related errands are not within the scope of your job as a full-time nanny. Setting these boundaries can prevent misunderstandings and burnout.

How to Keep Things From Piling Up

Setting clear expectations and communicating openly ensures that both you and the family maintain a healthy balance in your roles. Although light household chores related to the children are expected, you do not want the responsibility of trying to keep the house spotless when your primary focus should be on caring for the children.

FAQ: The Ultimate Guide to What You Need to KnowJadyn KorantengMon, 21 Oct 2024 19:08:12 +0000/blog/blog6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:67166a95c9d7e70d6d6f0463
  1. Why should I hire a nanny?

Hiring a nanny provides personalized care for your child in the comfort of your home, offering a consistent routine and tailored attention that daycare facilities often can’t match. We know that you want to provide the best care for your children, but sometimes managing all of your responsibilities makes it impossible for you to do it alone. A nanny takes some of that extra weight off your shoulders so you can be the parent you want to be

  2. Are your nannies CPR-certified?

Yes, all our nannies are required to have CPR and First Aid certification. We verify these certifications during the screening process to ensure your child’s safety.

  3. Do you run background checks on your nannies?

We conduct thorough background checks, including criminal, driving, and reference checks, before placing any nanny with a family.

  4. How do you find and screen your nannies?

Our specialized 12-tier screening process ensures that the best candidates are brought forth

    1. Extensive application process

    2. Phone interview

Yes, as an employer, you are responsible for paying nanny taxes, including Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment taxes. We have a list of preferred providers to assist you through the process.

  7. Will the nanny help with household chores?

Nannies are open to light housekeeping tasks related to the children (like cleaning up after meals or tidying play areas); however, childcare is a Nannies’ primary focus. A Family/Nanny Assistant can be more hands on when it comes to maintaining a clean and organized home.

  8. What happens if things don’t work out with the nanny I choose?

If you feel like the Nanny isn't a good fit for your family, we offer support in resolving issues or, if needed, will help you find a replacement as quickly as possible.

  9. How long does it take to find a nanny?

The process typically takes between 4 and 6 weeks, depending on your specific requirements and the availability of candidates.

  10. Why should I use an agency instead of finding a nanny on my own?

An agency saves you time by thoroughly vetting candidates, handling the screening process, and providing you with highly qualified, pre-screened nannies who meet your family’s needs.

  11. What is a typical schedule for a nanny?

Nannies usually work full-time or part-time, depending on your needs. Their schedules can vary, but they generally range from 8 to 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday. However, you can coordinate with your nanny to schedule overnight or weekend care.

  12. What areas do you serve?

  13. What’s the difference between a Nanny and a Family Assistant?

A Nanny focuses on childcare while a Family Assistant also helps with household management tasks, such as running errands, scheduling appointments, and light housekeeping.

Ensuring a Smooth Transition Back to SchoolGuest UserTue, 06 Aug 2024 13:21:00 +0000/blog/ensuring-a-smooth-transition-back-to-school6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:65805567cff2ad53342ae0ea

The transition back to school can be a challenging time for both students and parents. After a long summer break filled with fun and down-time, the return to a structured academic environment can cause emotional, academic, and social challenges for children. However, with preparation and support from both parents and the school, this transition can be smoother for everyone involved.

Understanding the Challenges of Transition

Transitioning from a care-free summer to the demands of school can be overwhelming for students. One of the main challenges they face is the emotional adjustment. Going from a relaxed schedule to a structured routine can trigger feelings of anxiety and stress. In addition, many children may experience separation anxiety from their families, especially younger ones. Leaving the comfort of home for a new environment can be daunting.

In addition, older students may be concerned about their academic performance. The pressure to excel academically can contribute to feelings of stress and self-doubt. Furthermore, students may have forgotten certain concepts or fallen out of practice with their study habits. As a result, the curriculum may be challenging. The sudden increase in workload and expectations can be overwhelming. Parents can play a crucial role in preparing their children for the academic demands by establishing a consistent routine. It is important to set aside dedicated time for studying and homework to reinforce good study habits and ensure a smooth academic transition. Providing resources such as tutoring or educational apps can also help students bridge any knowledge gaps and regain confidence in their abilities.

Additionally, the social aspect of returning to school can also pose challenges for students. They may find it difficult to reconnect with friends or make new acquaintances. The fear of rejection or not fitting in can create anxiety and make it even more difficult for children to connect with their classmates. However, listening to your children when they speak about the school environment and providing support and encouragement can be helpful ways to know if your child is struggling socially at school and working toward finding a solution.

In conclusion, it is essential for parents to acknowledge and address these challenges to ensure a successful transition. While the challenges of transitioning back to school are inevitable, parents can take proactive measures to ease this process for their children. By implementing strategies such as establishing a consistent routine, setting academic goals, and building social skills, students can navigate the transition with greater ease and confidence.

Preparing for the Transition

  • Establishing a Consistent Routine

One of the most effective ways to prepare for a smooth transition is by establishing a consistent routine. Before school starts, parents should gradually reintroduce structure into their children's lives. This can include setting regular wake-up and bedtime routines, planning meals and snacks at consistent times, and incorporating leisure activities into the daily schedule. By doing so, children will gradually adjust to the structured environment, making the transition less jarring.

Moreover, parents can use this opportunity to introduce new habits that promote overall well-being. For instance, incorporating regular exercise into the daily routine can not only improve physical health, but also enhance cognitive function, making it easier for students to focus and engage in their academic pursuits.

  • Setting Academic Goals

Setting academic goals is another vital aspect of preparing for a smooth transition back to school. Parents can collaborate with their children to identify achievable goals for the upcoming school year. Whether it's improving a particular subject or achieving a certain grade, setting academic goals can motivate students and provide them with a sense of purpose. However, it is also important that these goals are healthy and not placing unnecessary pressure on students.

Regular check-ins and providing resources for achieving these goals can further enhance their chances of success. Parents can work with teachers to ensure that the necessary support and guidance are available to help students reach their academic milestones. This collaborative effort between parents, teachers, and students fosters a sense of accountability and empowers students to take ownership of their education.

  • Building Social Skills

Helping students build social skills can greatly assist their transition back to school. Parents can encourage their children to engage in activities or join clubs that align with their interests. By doing so, students can expand their social network and develop valuable communication and teamwork skills.

Furthermore, depending on the student’s age, parents can facilitate playdates or get-togethers with classmates to help students reconnect and form new friendships. These social interactions not only provide an opportunity for students to share their summer experiences, but also create a sense of belonging and support within the school community.

Additionally, parents can encourage their children to participate in community service or volunteer activities. Engaging in acts of kindness and giving back to the community not only cultivates empathy and compassion but also helps students develop a broader perspective on the world around them.

Preparing for the transition back to school requires a multi-faceted approach. By establishing a consistent routine, setting academic goals, and building social skills, parents can equip their children with the necessary tools to navigate the challenges of returning to the academic environment. With these strategies in place, students can approach the new school year with confidence, resilience, and a readiness to embrace new opportunities for growth and learning.

Role of Parents in the Transition

Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children during the transition back to school. By providing guidance, encouragement, and open communication, parents can help alleviate anxiety and set their children up for success.

  • Communication with Children

Open communication is key in supporting children during the transition. Parents should create a safe space for their children to express their concerns and fears. By actively listening and empathizing, parents can reassure their children that their feelings are valid and that they are there to support them.

  • Collaboration with Teachers

Collaborating with teachers is essential in ensuring a smooth transition for students. Parents should engage in regular communication with their children's teachers to stay informed about their academic progress and any challenges they may be facing. By working together, parents and teachers can develop strategies to address any academic or social difficulties, ensuring that students receive the necessary support.

  • Encouraging Independence and Resilience

Part of a successful transition back to school involves encouraging independence and resilience in students. Parents can support their children by gradually giving them more responsibility and encouraging them to problem-solve independently. By fostering a sense of independence and resilience, parents empower their children to navigate challenges confidently and effectively.

Producing Your Personal Code of ConductMegan MetzgerThu, 18 Jul 2024 16:38:03 +0000/blog/producing-your-personal-code-of-conduct6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:66994463f28ec255190e8c18

Clearly defining your values, standards, and goals can be the catalyst that propels you forward.

Have you ever had a vision board or written down your objectives? Many influential leaders, including Deepak Chopra, Anthony Robbins, and Oprah, promote visualization as a powerful tool to help you crystalize and accomplish your goals.

Some of us may know the story of comedian Jim Carrey who wrote himself a post-dated check for 10 million dollars. At that time, he was just a no-name actor who was barely scraping by.

However, Carrey believed in himself, and he imagined that when the day eventually came to cash that check, he would have the money in the bank to clear it. And guess what? He did. exactly ten million dollars for his role in The Mask.

’s not magic. ’s science.

Research reveals that converting your abstract goals from thought or speech into something you can concretely view.

Why? Because it reminds you of the big picture to keep you focused and motivated. Thus, you’ll be more intentional about your choices.

This is the same reason companies define their vision and values by creating a code of conduct. It helps them funnel the essence of their brand (or what they hope it will become) into a tangible, ambiguity-free document.

Clarity + Focus + Action + Deadline = SUCCESS!

How many times have you heard these standard interview questions? “Tell us about who you are as a person?” “Where do you want to be in five years?” Even though you might not think so, as a nanny, you’re most certainly your own brand.

Writing a personal code of conduct is a thoughtful exercise that helps you describe what matters to you, what you want for yourself in the future, and the standards by which you’ll achieve them.

An easy way to eliminate confusion for yourself is by writing a personal manifesto, and we’re about to show you how to create one. This simple method allows you to take a structured approach to defining your path forward.

Identify your qualities: Pinpoint the characteristics you’re most proud to embody. Rank them in order of how much they mean to you and concentrate on your top five.

Are you the friend people can count on to get them to the airport on time? Maybe you’re the one they can trust to keep a secret? Or the friend who lifts others up when they’re feeling down?

Define your values: Reflect on what you hold in high regard, which could also be the qualities you admire in others. Rank them in order of how much they mean to you and, again, isolate the top five.

Examples could include fairness, kindness, flexibility, transparency, resilience, etc. Then, compare them to your list of qualities. Any that don’t match become your self-improvement goals.

Consider different areas: Although we’re focusing more on the professional vantage point in this exercise, a personal code of conduct should span multiple aspects of your life.

Divide a page into several categories. Some column headings that work for many include professional, social, health, romantic, financial, spiritual, and volunteerism.

Create a statement of purpose: Place this powerful summary at the top of your personal code of conduct. Like a company’s mission statement, it should succinctly explain the reason for this document.

Put the current date and commit to updating the document—at a minimum—annually. Then, add a disclaimer that anything you don’t already embody you commit to improving within the year.

Draft your personal code of conduct: After your statement of purpose, partner your values and characteristics using “I” statements as evidence. (Similar to how companies use “we” terminology.)

Integrity: I am truthful and honor commitments.

Respect: I treat others with consideration and empathy, regardless of our differences.

Fake it until you make it: Mix in the ones you admire and look forward to sharpening. They don’t have to be true right now, but write them as if they already are, trusting that they will be, soon.

Accountability: I take ownership of my actions and their consequences.

Bravery: I step outside of my comfort zones and make bold moves because I believe in myself.

Pair key areas of your life with action: Stick with the “I” statements. We won’t do them all, but here are a few examples to get you on the right track.

Social: I will not engage in gossip or speak ill of others behind their backs.

Professional: I will attend one childcare industry workshop per quarter.

Health: I will reduce my daily caffeine intake by half and double my water intake.

Review and refine: Seek feedback from trusted friends and mentors once you have a solid draft. They can spot gaps, ensure your code properly reflects you, and provide a balanced, realistic outlook.

Take a day or so before re-reading it with fresh eyes. Make revisions based on your own reconsiderations and/or on the feedback you’ve received. Then, consider it officially sealed and effective immediately! DONE.

Look at you go! Creating a personal code of conduct is a meaningful exercise in self-reflection and self-improvement. It provides a framework for making decisions and navigating life’s challenges according to your qualities, values, and goals.

Why You Need a Summer NannyJADYN KORANTENGWed, 26 Jun 2024 13:33:28 +0000/blog/qlbs0g1ffe41mxjnnssqmpl58wsd1z-jfjfb6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:667c1855f302044eac365cf9

Summer day camps and overnight camps may be an excellent option for your family and children over the summer. However, that’s not always the right option for your family and children. There’s a variety of different reasons as to why camp might not be your preferred option.

Maybe you’re not comfortable sending your child to a camp, or maybe your child doesn’t want to be away from home. Perhaps you’re a working parent, but the thought of coming home from a long day at work and not being able to see your children sounds horrible? Regardless of your reasoning, if summer camps aren’t the right option for you but you still want your children to have a blast this summer, let’s talk about the benefits of hiring a summer nanny!

FUN SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT

Summer offers seemingly limitless options for children to have fun. Your go-to summer spots may be indoor and outdoor pools, parks, or even the beach. There’s also other amazing options like playgrounds, museums, amusement parks, movie theaters, and more! A summer nanny can accompany your children when you don’t have the time. That way your children can still enjoy all the joy that summer has to offer.

If you don’t necessarily want your children to stray too far from home, there are still countless options that your nanny can choose from to entertain the kids! Think backyard scavenger hunts, cozy movies for those rainy days, or maybe even setting up backyard water olympics with some water games.

You can relax knowing that throughout the summer, your children’s summer nanny is keeping them enriched, entertained, and active!

EXTRA HELP IF YOU’RE WORKING

Your children may be on a break from school, but you likely still have to work. As we mentioned, a summer nanny can care for your children during the day while you work, or help you relax and enjoy any time off that you might have.

With a summer nanny, your kids can stick to a consistent schedule of fun and/or educational summer activities. Depending on the arrangement you offer—and as long as the summer nanny you hire agrees—you might even get a little extra help with household chores.

Talk to your potential new summer nanny about adding easy chores to their work agreement: tidying the house, doing the dishes, or taking care of the laundry. Coming home to a neat and tidy house after a long day at work can be a huge relief.

TIPS FOR WORKING WITH A NEW SUMMER NANNY

There are some steps you can take to ensure your new summer nanny works well with your family. For starters, make sure you talk about which summer activities are acceptable and which are not. This is especially important if your summer nanny is driving the children to do activities. Maybe small neighborhood parks and trails are okay, but busy parks that can get crowded are not. Whatever your preferences, communicate them with your nanny.

You should also talk to your kids about their new summer nanny! Hopefully, your children have already met and talked to their nanny during the hiring process. To ensure that the rest of the summer goes well, it may be a good idea to spend a day together before your nanny begins work full-time.

COME VACATION WITH US! Megan MetzgerWed, 05 Jun 2024 21:36:36 +0000/blog/come-vacation-with-us6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:6660d4a957200966891493ea

Olivia, our Vacation Nanny, and the kids!

Why you need a nanny for your next holiday.

Integrity is more than just some company buzzword. ’s at the core of everything we do, and that means I better practice what I preach.

So, a key part of my continuous journey of self-improvement is to be more present and live each moment more intentionally. I have a responsibility to my children to be checked in during family time.

Few bonding experiences are as precious as those enjoyed on a family vacation. Those childhood vacations stay with us all forever as special memories.

Mommy-Daughter date night at the boardwalk!

However, let’s be honest, holidays are hectic! That’s especially true for the parent who is in charge of making sure things go smoothly. And in my family, that person is me.

So, this past spring break, I hired a nanny to come with me and my four children on our beach vacation. I was hoping that she would serve as a (much needed) extra pair of hands, but she ended up being so much more impactful than just that.

You also deserve rest.

Typically, a “vacation” with my four kids is anything but relaxing for me. They’re all different ages and have totally unique interests and needs.

I asked the team to help us find someone and I promptly received a few candidate profiles to review. We arranged interviews with our top two choices and hired Olivia because her positive energy fit well with our busy family.

Before we left for our trip, Olivia came to babysit one evening so she could get to know the kids better. A week later, she showed up 10 minutes early, suitcase packed, and wearing a big smile on her face. She was ready to roll and eager to help!

Are we there yet?

I asked Olivia to pack the SUV while I finished breakfast with the kids. I came outside 20 minutes later to see Olivia playing Tetris with the luggage, bags, and beach gear—I was amazed she made it all fit so neatly.

On the ride down to the beach, Olivia kept the children entertained by playing road trip games and dishing out snacks. Even when the kids got restless and started bickering, Olivia remained enthusiastic and helped keep them entertained and calm.

During a pitstop, Olivia took the kids inside to use the bathroom while I had a moment of silence. When they all returned to the car laughing, I just knew it was going to be a fun week!

Even in those early days, Olivia was so intuitive! I didn’t have to direct her or check up on her—she searched for opportunities to help and seemed to just “get” us. Plus, the children adored her!

Fun in the sun (for everyone).

On beach days, Olivia was accommodating, hands-on, and playful. She got in the (freezing cold) water with the kids, built sandcastles with the little ones, collected seashells with my daughter, and played tee-ball for hours with our preschooler.

Olivia was also on top of the logistics. She helped the children reapply sunscreen, made sure everyone was hydrated, and more—all without me having to ask! Sure, that freed me of the physical load of “doing,” but it also liberated me from the “emotional” labor of constantly worrying about all my kids at once.

Olivia & Mason is the FREEZING water

With seemingly boundless energy and excitement, Olivia got up early every day and prepared a warm breakfast for everyone. Then, while we were eating, she packed the cooler for lunch on the beach and helped dress the little ones.

Olivia either came back to the house every afternoon with the preschooler for naptime or stayed and played with the other children. She made dinner every night or accompanied us out to restaurants, keeping hungry children patient during long waits.

Having Olivia there to play board games with the older children while I put the preschooler to bed transformed a tumultuous time of the evening into one of ease and joy.

Perhaps best of all, Olivia’s support allowed me to have one-on-one time with each of my kids throughout the week. Nothing is better than a mother-daughter or mother-son date night at the beach!

Olivia & Mason playing Tee Ball for HOURS

With Olivia by our side, I also got the chance to read at the beach, schedule a 90-minute massage at the local spa, and (are you ready for THIS?), nap. On the way home, she even offered to drive! Now that’s what I call a real vacation.

Let’s find your “Olivia!”

I love my children, but as I mentioned, they have a wide age gap and outnumber me which can make traveling with them stressful. Olivia made this family trip a true vacation for me, too.

This was one of my favorite holidays because I was able to genuinely relax and enjoy it while also knowing that my children had a special and fun trip. I’ve found myself already planning more trips this summer because I know Olivia will make things go smoothly and take excellent care of ALL of us!

’s not too late to line up top-quality help for your summer holiday! Learn more about vacation nannies from our team. No matter what your needs are, our incredible caregivers are ready to answer the call!

Family traveling together means a little bit of crazy, a little bit of loud, and a whole lot of love.” – Anonymous.

Your Boss Wants to Pay for Your ChildcareMegan MetzgerTue, 04 Jun 2024 13:00:00 +0000/blog/your-boss-wants-to-pay-for-your-childcare6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:6658c096ca156b2efdc45e42

Why that’s true, why it’s about time, AND why you should take full advantage.

Corporate childcare is (finally) having its moment. As a nanny agency with deep roots in the childcare industry, we’ve waited a long time to celebrate this much-needed progress.

After all, that’s how progress usually goes, isn’t it? It begins slowly until BOOM, you start seeing that change everywhere. And momentum is on our side as more and more employers are offering childcare as part of their employee benefits package (or they will be soon).

Here are a few reasons why your boss wants to pay for your childcare, and a few reasons why you should let them.

Employers want to be problem-solvers to attract top talent.

You don’t need us to tell you that the United States has been facing a childcare crisis for a while.

As a parent, you know better than anyone the challenges that come with balancing your career while simultaneously raising children. And for many, work-life balance can be unobtainable.

At the center of this struggle is the challenge of finding quality, affordable childcare. But come on, it’s 2024, and you shouldn’t have to choose between your career or parenthood.

Getting (and keeping!) people in the workforce.

Parents, especially mothers, often have to scale back work hours or leave their jobs altogether to care for their children. Those who do end up taking time off find it challenging to resume their careers later on.

Of course, the impact extends far beyond the home and workplace into society. Reduced workforce participation equates to less taxes collection and minimizing economic growth, which hampers the United States’ ability to compete globally in various sectors.

Rested, healthy parents make better employees.

Think about your own situation. How many times have you pushed through at full capacity after trying to find childcare support to allow you to take a break and rest? It is unsurprising that many parents suffer from elevated stress, burnout, and other physical and mental health concerns.

Far too often, inadequate childcare options and financial concerns prevent parents from seeking timely medical care for themselves or their children. Employers understand that this cycle eventually increases absenteeism and reduces productivity.

Childcare costs shouldn’t cause financial strain.

High childcare costs can sometimes even surpass rent or mortgage payments, which makes hiring a babysitter unaffordable for many. This frequently puts low-income families between a rock and a hard place because how can you apply for a better job when you don’t have reliable childcare?

Therefore, upward mobility becomes even more difficult, which perpetuates inequality. Even if you’re fortunate enough to be able to afford childcare, it still limits your disposable income, putting you at a disadvantage over your childless coworkers and impacting your spending patterns.

Unregulated or substandard childcare isn’t worth the risk.

An underfunded childcare system puts increased pressure on existing providers. Prices go up, spaces disappear, and some families resort to under-the-table childcare arrangements.

Unstable childcare environments jeopardize your childrens’ safety and compromise trust in your provider because tax collection is the law!

Clearly, as a society, it’s to everyone’s advantage for policymakers, businesses, and communities to support nationwide childcare initiatives. And it’s in your best interest to take full advantage of your access to affordable, high-quality childcare.

Let our team help your employer help you.

If your company isn’t offering corporate childcare as part of your benefits package (yet), we’d love to help them see the light! If you put us in touch with someone at your organization who’s involved with HR decision-making, we’ll provide the evidence to help them see reason.

Even just include us on the CC-line in a brief email introduction and we’ll take care of the rest. Plus, it would be our pleasure to show you our appreciation with a gift card as a thank you for the referral. Drop us a line at info@preferredchildcare.com to learn more!

Is corporate childcare already one of your employer-provided benefits but you’re unsure how to use it? Send us an email to info@preferredchildcare.com so we can help you maximize your annual benefit!

Oftentimes, we can partner directly with your insurance, which makes it seamless for you to book a quality babysitter while we handle the cumbersome reimbursement process.

We’ve built several packages to specifically help companies offer cost-effective, quality childcare solutions to their employees. ’s the modern way for them to support their staff in managing work-life balance and ensuring their children are well cared for without having to worry about all the payment and process details.

Because, after all, a benefit shouldn’t create more work for you!

“We are new to Greensboro and have used several times for sitters and now to find a night nanny for our twins. They have been extremely professional, and our 2-year-old has had a great time with them.” – Timothy M.

Reasons to Use a Local Nanny Agency to Find a Nanny for Your Family Megan MetzgerMon, 25 Mar 2024 13:00:00 +0000/blog/reasons-to-use-a-local-nanny-agency-to-find-a-nanny-for-your-family6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:65fe44f8d8a97e7124015b65

Finding the right nanny for your family can be a daunting task. With so many options available, it's important to explore different avenues before making a decision. While online sources may seem convenient, using a local nanny agency can offer numerous advantages that are worth considering.

Understanding the Role of a Nanny Agency

Hiring a nanny through a local agency comes with a range of benefits. These agencies specialize in connecting families with qualified and experienced nannies who match their specific needs. The process of hiring through a nanny agency involves several steps that ensure a smooth and successful placement.

Local nanny agencies often have a deep understanding of the local community and can provide insights into the best practices for hiring a nanny in your area. They may have established relationships with nannies who have excellent reputations and proven track records, giving you access to a pool of candidates who have already been vetted for their qualifications and experience.

The Process of Hiring Through a Nanny Agency

When you choose to work with a local nanny agency, you can expect a comprehensive process. This typically begins with an initial consultation to determine your requirements and preferences. The agency will then provide you with a selection of suitable nannies for you to consider. After reviewing the candidates, you can arrange interviews and trials with potential nannies before making your final decision.

Local nanny agencies often have a thorough screening process in place to ensure that the nannies they recommend meet high standards of professionalism and childcare expertise. This can provide you with peace of mind knowing that the candidates presented to you have been carefully evaluated and are well-suited to meet your family's needs.

Services Offered by Local Nanny Agencies

Local nanny agencies offer a wide range of services to assist you in finding the perfect nanny for your family. In addition to providing candidate profiles and arranging interviews, they often offer guidance and support throughout the hiring process. They have partnerships with payroll providers who specialize in domestic staffing and can ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and efficiently.

Furthermore, some local nanny agencies may offer additional services such as ongoing support and resources for both families and nannies after the placement has been made. This can include check-ins to ensure that the arrangement is working well for both parties, as well as access to training opportunities for nannies to further enhance their skills and knowledge in childcare.

The Advantages of Using a Local Nanny Agency

Choosing a local nanny agency over online sources has several advantages that can greatly benefit your nanny search. Not only does it provide a sense of security and reliability, but it also offers a personalized touch that can make all the difference in finding the perfect caregiver for your family.

Local nanny agencies are deeply rooted in the community, which means they have a wealth of knowledge about the area and its specific needs. This local expertise allows them to match families with nannies who not only meet the job requirements but also understand the nuances of the neighborhood, schools, and local resources. By choosing a local agency, you are tapping into a network that is dedicated to serving the community and ensuring the best possible care for your children.

Personalized Service and Local Knowledge

One of the major advantages of using a local nanny agency is the personalized service you receive. A reputable agency will take the time to understand your family's unique requirements and match you with nannies who possess the necessary skills and qualifications. Additionally, agencies with local knowledge can provide insights into the community, helping you find a nanny who is familiar with your area and its resources.

Local nanny agencies often have established relationships with nannies in the area, allowing them to make more tailored recommendations based on firsthand knowledge of the caregivers. This personal touch can result in a more seamless and successful match between your family and the nanny, creating a harmonious and nurturing environment for your children.

Thorough Screening and Background Checks

Local nanny agencies prioritize the safety and well-being of your family. They conduct thorough screening and background checks on potential nannies, including verification of qualifications, reference checks, and criminal record checks. These comprehensive measures provide reassurance and peace of mind for parents.

By entrusting the vetting process to a local agency, you can rest assured that the nannies presented to you have undergone rigorous screening to ensure they are qualified, trustworthy, and capable of providing the level of care your family deserves. This attention to detail sets local agencies apart and underscores their commitment to delivering high-quality childcare services.

Time-saving solution

While online platforms offer a vast array of nanny profiles to choose from, the sheer volume of options can make the search overwhelming and time-consuming. Families may find themselves spending hours sifting through countless profiles in search of the perfect fit. Moreover, the lack of personalized interaction and support on online platforms can make it challenging to establish a strong connection with potential candidates.

In contrast, local nanny agencies provide families with a more personalized and tailored approach to finding a caregiver. These agencies often take the time to understand the unique needs and preferences of each family, facilitating a smoother and more efficient matchmaking process. By leveraging the expertise and resources of a local agency, families can streamline their search and find a nanny who not only meets their requirements but also aligns with their values and parenting style.

Making the Right Choice for Your Family

There is no better way to find the next caregiver for your family than a local nanny agency. With a personalized and comprehensive experience, from understanding your family's unique needs to providing ongoing support, these agencies prioritize the safety, well-being, and happiness of your children. Choose a local nanny agency like, , to ensure a successful and harmonious match that benefits both your family and the nanny.

The Difference Between a Babysitter and a NannyMegan MetzgerSat, 23 Mar 2024 02:56:39 +0000/blog/the-difference-between-a-babysitter-and-a-nanny6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:65fe413fa1159971035a5b86

Even though they look similar there is a big difference between a babysitter and a nanny.

When it comes to childcare, parents have several options to consider. Two common choices are hiring a babysitter or a nanny. While both provide valuable care for children, there are distinct differences between the two roles. Understanding these differences can help parents make an informed decision about the type of care they need for their family.

Understanding the Roles: Babysitter Vs Nanny

Defining a Babysitter's Role

A babysitter is typically hired on an occasional basis to provide short-term care for children. This can include evening or weekend babysitting when parents have commitments or want a break. Babysitters usually work in the child's home and are responsible for their immediate care during the designated hours. They may help with meal preparation, supervise playtime, and ensure the child's safety.

Unlike a nanny, a babysitter does not have regular or consistent working hours. They are often considered more flexible and are typically younger individuals looking for part-time work. Babysitters may have other commitments, such as school or other jobs, that limit the hours they are available.

Babysitters play a crucial role in providing short-term care for children, offering parents the flexibility they need for occasional commitments or date nights. Parents often rely on babysitters to ensure their children are well-cared for in their absence, creating a sense of trust and reliability between the sitter and the family. Babysitters may also engage in fun and educational activities with the children, fostering a positive and nurturing environment.

Defining a Nanny's Role

A nanny, on the other hand, is often a full-time caregiver for children. They often work on a regular schedule and have a deeper level of involvement in the child's life. Nannies may be responsible for transporting children to and from activities, assisting with homework, and engaging in educational play.

Unlike a babysitter, a nanny may live with the family or have set working hours that extend beyond the typical 9-5 schedule. Nannies are generally more experienced and may have formal childcare training or certifications.

Nannies often form strong bonds with the children they care for, becoming a consistent and reliable presence in their lives. They play a pivotal role in the child's development, providing not just basic care but also emotional support and guidance. Nannies may also take on additional responsibilities such as light housekeeping or running errands for the family, helping to maintain a smooth and organized household environment.

Key Responsibilities of a Babysitter

Being a babysitter involves a range of responsibilities that are crucial for the well-being and safety of the children under their care. Apart from the typical duties like supervising children during designated hours, preparing meals and snacks, engaging in safe and age-appropriate play, and ensuring the child's well-being and safety, a babysitter also plays a vital role in providing emotional support and a nurturing environment for the children.

Babysitters often act as role models for the children they care for, teaching them valuable life skills and fostering positive behaviors. They create a sense of security and trust, allowing children to feel comfortable and happy in their presence. Additionally, babysitters may assist with homework, organize educational activities, and encourage creativity and exploration in children, contributing to their overall development.

Skills and Qualifications for Babysitters

While formal qualifications are not mandatory for individuals interested in becoming babysitters, possessing certain skills can greatly enhance their effectiveness in this role. Beyond the basic responsibilities, babysitters benefit from having experience in caring for children, which helps them understand different age groups' needs and behaviors. Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR is essential in handling emergencies and ensuring the children's safety in unforeseen situations.

Furthermore, good communication and problem-solving skills are valuable assets for babysitters to effectively interact with both children and parents. Patience and adaptability are key traits that enable babysitters to handle various challenges that may arise during their caregiving duties, fostering a positive and harmonious environment for the children under their supervision.

Key Responsibilities of a Nanny

Being a nanny involves much more than just basic childcare duties. Nannies play a crucial role in a child's development and well-being, often becoming like a member of the family. In addition to providing care and supervision, nannies are responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for the children under their care.

Typical Nanny Duties

A nanny's responsibilities extend beyond basic childcare. They may undertake tasks such as:

  1. Creating and implementing daily routines

  2. Assisting with schoolwork and educational activities

  3. Providing transportation to and from activities

  4. Managing the child's schedule and appointments

Furthermore, nannies often act as role models for the children, teaching them important life skills and values. They may also be responsible for preparing meals, doing light housework, and engaging in fun and educational activities to promote the child's growth and development.

Skills and Qualifications for Nannies

Due to the nature of their role, nannies often possess additional skills and qualifications, including:

  • Previous experience as a nanny or in a related childcare field

  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities

  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

Moreover, effective communication skills are essential for nannies to maintain open and transparent communication with both the children and their parents. Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with children are also key qualities that make a successful nanny.

Comparing the Costs: Babysitter and Nanny

When considering childcare options, it's essential to weigh the costs associated with hiring a babysitter versus a nanny. The cost of hiring a babysitter can vary depending on factors such as location, the number of children, and the babysitter's experience. Babysitters typically charge anywhere from $15 to $30 per hour, with rates potentially increasing for overnight or specialized care. It's important to note that while babysitters offer flexibility in terms of scheduling, they may not provide the same level of commitment and consistency as a nanny.

Parents often opt for babysitters for occasional or part-time childcare needs, such as date nights or errands. While babysitters offer short-term solutions and are generally more affordable on an hourly basis, they may lack the extensive childcare experience and qualifications that nannies possess.

When it comes to hiring a nanny, the cost is typically higher due to the increased level of care and responsibilities. Nannies provide full-time, consistent care for children and often take on additional household duties. On average, full-time nannies earn between $20 and $55 per hour.

Nannies offer a long-term childcare solution, fostering strong relationships with the children under their care and providing a structured routine. Their higher rates reflect their experience, qualifications, and the level of personalized care they offer. Families seeking a nanny value the peace of mind that comes with having a dedicated caregiver who is invested in their children's well-being and development.

Making the Right Choice for Your Family

Factors to Consider When Hiring a Babysitter

When deciding between a babysitter and a nanny, it's essential to evaluate your family's specific needs and circumstances. Consider factors such as:

  • Frequency and duration of care needed

  • Availability and reliability of the caregiver

  • Cost and budget

  • Qualifications and experience required

Choosing the right caregiver for your child is a significant decision that can impact your family's daily routine and overall well-being. It's crucial to assess not only the practical aspects of care but also the emotional and developmental needs of your child. A babysitter may offer more flexibility for occasional care needs, while a nanny could provide a more consistent and structured environment for your child's growth.

Factors to Consider When Hiring a Nanny

If you're considering hiring a nanny, additional factors to consider include:

  • Level of involvement and engagement desired

  • Flexibility with scheduling

  • Ability to provide ongoing care and support

  • Preference for a live-in or live-out arrangement

When hiring a nanny, it's essential to establish clear communication and expectations from the beginning. Nannies often become an integral part of the family dynamic, providing not just childcare but also emotional support and guidance for children. Their role extends beyond basic supervision to nurturing and fostering a child's development in a safe and loving environment.

Choosing a local nanny agency like gives you the flexibility to choose a babysitter when needed or a nanny for longer-term needs.

Nannying is a job built on passion, offering unique opportunities to positively impact young lives. However, beyond the joy of childcare, nannies also have legal rights that are crucial to understand.

Right to legal pay

A common misunderstanding is that if you're hired directly by a family, you should receive a 1099 form as an independent contractor. However, according to if you're paid more than $2,600 in a calendar year, you should be considered a household employee. In this case, your employer should provide you with a W-2 form for tax filing purposes. It's important to know that your employer is responsible for correctly filing and paying federal and state taxes, as well as Social Security and Medicare contributions on your behalf.

You waive your rights when you are paid under the table, so it is in your best interest to first and foremost work for an employer who follows the law.

An employer who follows proper employment laws will:

  • Follow federal and state tax laws

  • Follow minimum wage and overtime laws

  • Follow labor laws

  • Include workers’ compensation if a policy is required in your state

Although your employer is not required to provide you with benefits, such as health insurance, you should take this into consideration before signing any agreements or beginning work so that you know what is covered or not covered.

Right to Vacation Time and Sick or Personal Days

As a full-time nanny, you should receive paid time off from work. Two weeks of paid vacation is a typical expectation, although you will have to work out with the family if the dates are up to them or at your request.

You also have the right to have holidays or days off for religious observance, but you will again need to discuss these ahead of time with the family. It is normal to have paid sick days, with five being the average for full-time nannies. Again, ideally you should be aware of the number of sick days you have before you sign an agreement with the family.

Right to Pay for Hours Worked and Overtime

As a full-time employee, you have an expected compensation amount in your agreement.

If the family decides to take a vacation and gives you time off, then you should still be paid for this time unless something else has been negotiated upfront with the family.

The same goes if your employer lets you off early during a regular work day. You have the right to be paid in full.

You should expect overtime pay if you work more than 40 hours in a workweek, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Right to be Treated as a Professional

You are a professional when it comes to providing childcare and should also be treated as such by the family you work for.

Just as you would expect to meet the expectations laid out by the family in your agreement with them, you also have the right to expect that the family also meets your expectations of doing what they say they will do. The relationship you have as a caregiver to the family’s children is a two-way street. You should be clear on the family’s expectations from the start so that you can follow through and prioritize your work.

For example, the family should stick to duties that are mainly focused on taking care of their children, not overly focused on housework or cooking. These assigned tasks should be outlined in your handbook, and occasionally may need amending–however, this should be discussed with you first. You have the right to communicate with the family when you feel like duties are piling up or not sticking to those that have to do with the children.

You also have the right to be notified by the family when they will return later than you expected. Your employer should respect your time and not make it a habit to be routinely late when you should be relieved of your duties.

Your rights also include being reimbursed for any mileage used when driving your charges or when purchasing something for the family that was requested.

Once again, communication with the family should be regular and open to facilitate understanding and awareness on both sides. As a professional, you know that regular constructive feedback from the family will help improve your work, and feeling like you are able to have open communication with the family you serve will also allow you to feel more comfortable and respected as a professional nanny.

A Successful Partnership

To build a successful, long-term partnership with a family, both you and the family must maintain open communication, be receptive to constructive feedback, and prioritize the best interests of the children.

Protecting your rights through a contract or agreement before starting work is essential for managing expectations on both sides.

The Five Love Languages of ChildrenGuest UserThu, 01 Feb 2024 14:00:00 +0000/blog/the-five-love-languages-of-children6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:657cca6437439971b5d4fabd

In our journey as parents, understanding our children’s love languages is essential. Everyone, including children, has a unique way of giving and receiving love, and discovering their love language can significantly improve our relationship with them. In this article, we will explore the concept of love languages and how they apply to children. We will dive into the five primary love languages, discuss the benefits of knowing your child's love language, explore strategies for responding to different love languages, and learn how to build a foundation of love and understanding with your child.

The Five Love Languages of Children

Dr. Gary Chapman, author of "The Five Love Languages," identified five primary love languages: (1) words of affirmation, (2) quality time, (3) receiving gifts, (4) acts of service, and (5) physical touch. Understanding which love language resonates with your child can help you communicate love in a way that truly connects with them.

1. Words of Affirmation: Some children thrive on verbal praise and encouragement. It's important to acknowledge their efforts and express your love through kind and affirming words.

Children who respond to words of affirmation often have a deep need for validation and recognition. They seek verbal reassurance that they are loved and appreciated. As a parent, you can make a conscious effort to provide specific and genuine compliments to your child. This can boost their self-esteem and create a positive emotional environment.

2. Quality Time: Certain children feel most loved when they have your undivided attention. They cherish moments shared with you and feel valued when you invest time in their world.

Spending quality time with your child involves being fully present and engaged in their activities. This love language is about creating meaningful connections and building strong bonds. Whether it's playing a board game, going for a walk, or simply having an engaged conversation, dedicating uninterrupted time to your child can foster a sense of security and emotional closeness.

3. Receiving Gifts: Some children appreciate tangible symbols of love. It's not about the monetary value but the thoughtfulness behind the gesture. Remember, it's the sentiment that counts.

Children who value receiving gifts often see them as tokens of love and affection. These gifts can be as simple as a handwritten note, a small trinket, or a favorite treat. Just because your child values gifts does not mean that they need to be complicated or expensive–it’s often more about the thought and act of gift giving. The key is to show your child that you have thought about their interests and desires. By giving them something meaningful, you are demonstrating your love and care in a way that speaks directly to their heart.

4. Acts of Service: For some children, actions speak louder than words. They feel loved when you help them with tasks or meet their needs. Simple acts of service can make a big difference in how they perceive your love.

Children who respond to acts of service appreciate the practical ways in which you show your love. This love language involves acts of kindness and assistance, such as helping with homework, preparing their favorite meal, or tidying up their room. By taking the time to meet their needs and alleviate their burdens, you are demonstrating your love and support in a tangible and meaningful way.

5. Physical Touch: Physical affection, such as hugs, cuddles, and gentle touches, speaks volumes to children with this love language. Physical touch reassures them of your love and creates a sense of security.

Children who have physical touch as their primary love language crave physical closeness and intimacy. They find comfort and reassurance in physical contact with their loved ones. As a parent, you can express your love through hugs, kisses, pats on the back, or holding hands. These gestures of affection can create a strong emotional bond and help your child feel safe and loved.

The Benefits of Knowing Your Child's Love Language

Discovering your child's love language has numerous benefits that extend beyond improving your relationship. Firstly, it allows you to communicate love in a way that your child understands and appreciates. When you express love in their preferred language, they feel truly seen and valued. This strengthens the bond between you and helps build trust.

Understanding their love language can also provide valuable insights into their emotional needs and preferences. For instance, if your child's love language is physical touch, you may notice that they crave hugs, cuddles, and physical affection. By recognizing this, you can make a conscious effort to incorporate more physical touch into your daily interactions, which can have a profound impact on their emotional well-being.

Secondly, understanding your child's love language can enhance discipline and behavioral correction. Different children respond differently to discipline, and tailoring your approach to their love language can be more effective. For example, using words of affirmation to correct behavior or offering acts of service to help them learn from their mistakes. This personalized approach not only helps them understand the consequences of their actions, but also reinforces your love and support for them.

Moreover, knowing your child's love language helps you cultivate a positive emotional environment. When you consistently meet their needs and show love in their preferred language, you create a nurturing atmosphere where they feel secure, accepted, and understood. This emotional security lays the foundation for their overall well-being and can contribute to their self-esteem, resilience, and ability to form healthy relationships in the future.

Furthermore, understanding your child's love language can also improve your own parenting skills. By being aware of their unique needs and preferences, you can adapt your parenting style to better meet those needs. This flexibility and responsiveness can foster a stronger connection between you and your child, as they feel supported and valued for who they truly are.

In addition, knowing your child's love language can help you navigate challenging situations more effectively. For example, during times of stress or conflict, you can use their love language to provide comfort and reassurance. If their love language is quality time, you can spend uninterrupted moments together, engaging in activities they enjoy, to help them feel safe and loved.

Lastly, discovering your child's love language can also enhance your own understanding of their unique personality and temperament. By observing how they respond to different expressions of love, you can gain valuable insights into their emotional world. This knowledge can deepen your empathy and enable you to connect with them on a deeper level, fostering a relationship built on mutual understanding and respect.

CHILDCARE = COUPLE’S CAREMegan MetzgerMon, 29 Jan 2024 09:30:00 +0000/blog/childcare-couples-care6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:65b2debe79d6df5d1c6995f8

How a babysitter can improve a marriage.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and we’re about to say the quiet parts out loud.

No question—even during the best of times—juggling the demands of modern life is challenging. Children require a lot. Marriages also require a lot. Careers, friendships, family… You get the idea. Most of us feel like a pie that’s been cut into too many slices.

Unfortunately, is often the first casualty of our jam-packed calendars. Date night becomes the easily expendable entry. However, over time, this can erode your relationship.

A life raft for a suffering marriage.

The monotony of the daily grind can extinguish even the strongest spark. We know what you’re thinking. “My marriage has bigger problems than going out for dinner.” Certainly, for many that’s true, but more and more experts agree that intentionally carving out kid-free time as a duo isn’t just nice—it’s critical.

Date nights make room for undistracted communication and enjoying each other’s company for the pure purpose of pleasure. Does it mean it’ll rain magic and all your issues will instantly vanish? Of course not. However, it can help you and your partner feel like a team, giving you a chance to work out more significant matters together.

Quality time as a love language?

As Rachael Pace writes , "In Gary Chapman’s five love languages, quality time is the language that revolves around togetherness. It is love and affection expressed through undivided attention."

Immediate benefits of making time for your relationship include trust building, improved communication, stress relief, and enhanced emotional connection. You’ll also create new “jܲ-ٳ-ٷɴ-Ǵ-ܲ” memories. So, how much quality time do you need?

Even small gains will snowball down to your kids.

The point is to be intentional about giving each other meaningful, undivided attention while doing something fun. Don’t put too much pressure on what you do and where you go.

You can start by simply heading out for a walk. Next, stretch it to a couple of hours, grabbing a coffee and dessert. Then, work up to dinner and a movie, and so forth. Okay, so what about frequency?

The 2-2-2 Date Night Rule of marriage.

that there IS in fact a magic number. ’s recommended that couples go on a date night once every two weeks, get away for a long weekend every two months, and take a week-long vacation every two years. Try to stick to this ratio to help keep that spark alive.

It might feel like a chore in the beginning, but inevitably, it’ll remind you of all the warm and fuzzy things that made you a couple in the first place. And most of all, remember that date night is about YOU and your needs and desires as a couple, not your children.

Many people think childcare is either a full-time nanny or your neighborhood teenager, but there is another option! offers a membership program that lets you call or email in your date night (or any other event) request.

It keeps your costs low and predictable without forcing you to compromise on quality. We don't do anything randomly, and our NannyMatch System™ ensures that every placement is hyper-personalized, so every family always gets the best fit for their needs.

“Partnering with saved my marriage.” That’s a direct quote from a dear, long-term client and one of our all-time favorite testimonials.

So, what did we do that was so great? We provided reliable, first-rate childcare so that this busy Mom and Dad could turn their attention to each other.

And we don’t just mean a babysitter so that you can leave the house. We mean completely disconnecting for a few hours from worrying about the kids—because you know they’re in good hands—and reconnecting with your partner and remembering why you’re together in the first place.

Sounds nice, doesn’t it? ’s not too late to rethink your Valentine’s Day, but it will be soon! Contact us today!

The Evolution of Nanny Services: Trends and InnovationsMegan MetzgerTue, 09 Jan 2024 14:00:00 +0000/blog/the-evolution-of-nanny-services-trends-and-innovations-mu72s6407b893eebea573ee0479f5:6407c9801702d159f07b0fa7:656cdcb07453d563a5864270

In today's fast-paced world, the need for reliable and trustworthy childcare has only grown. Nanny services have evolved over the years to meet the changing demands of families. From traditional roles to modern innovations, the nanny industry has experienced significant shifts, especially in the past decade! This article delves into the basics of nanny services, explores the evolution of the industry, discusses current trends, showcases innovations, and provides insights into the future of nanny services.

Understanding the Basics of Nanny Services

The traditional role of nannies was primarily focused on childcare. Nannies would provide round-the-clock care for children to ensure their safety, well-being, and development. They would handle tasks such as feeding, bathing, and engaging in activities with the child. Additionally, nannies often acted as a support system for parents.

However, in recent years, the role of nannies has expanded beyond childcare. Today's nannies are expected to be versatile and flexible, taking on additional responsibilities such as household chores, meal preparation, and transporting children to various activities. This evolution reflects the changing needs and expectations of families. When it comes to household chores, nannies may be responsible for tasks such as laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping. They ensure the home is tidy and organized, thus creating a comfortable and nurturing space for the children. By taking on these additional responsibilities, nannies help alleviate some of the busy parents’ stress and workload.

Meal preparation is another important role for many nannies. They are often tasked with planning and cooking nutritious meals for the children, and that often means they have to consider any dietary restrictions or preferences. Nannies may also involve the children in meal preparation, teaching them about healthy eating habits and fostering their culinary skills (more on this in one of our other blogs).

In addition to childcare and household chores, nannies are frequently involved in transporting children to various activities. This may include driving them to school, extracurricular activities, playdates, or appointments. Nannies ensure that children arrive safely and on time, providing parents with peace of mind and convenience.

Furthermore, nannies play a crucial role in the social and emotional development of children. They provide a nurturing and supportive environment, fostering a sense of security and trust. Nannies engage in educational activities, such as reading, arts and crafts, and outdoor play, to stimulate the child's cognitive and physical development.

Overall, the expanded role of nannies reflects the changing dynamics of modern families. With parents often juggling demanding careers and busy schedules, nannies have become an invaluable resource in providing comprehensive care for children. Their versatility and flexibility allow them to adapt to the unique needs of each family, ensuring that children receive the attention, care, and guidance they require for optimal growth and development.

The Evolution of Nanny Services

The shift in nanny responsibilities has been driven by various factors. One of those reasons is the changing dynamics of families. There are more dual-income households, which has led to a greater need for comprehensive childcare services. Nannies have adapted to this change by taking on additional tasks that support the overall functioning of the household.

Nannies have become an essential part of many families with parents who both work full-time jobs. They not only provide care and supervision for children, but also assist with household chores, meal preparation, and even transportation. This expanded role allows parents to focus on their careers while ensuring their children are well-cared for and their homes are running smoothly.

Moreover, the impact of technology on nanny services cannot be underestimated. With the emergence of smartphones and other connected devices, nannies now have access to a plethora of resources that enhance their ability to provide excellent care. From educational apps that promote learning and development to real-time communication with parents, technology has revolutionized the way nannies operate.

With just a few taps on their phones, nannies can access a vast array of educational materials tailored to the specific needs and interests of the children they care for. These apps offer interactive games, puzzles, and activities that not only entertain, but also stimulate cognitive and motor skills development. Nannies can track a child's progress, identify areas that need improvement, and provide personalized learning experiences.

Real-time communication has also become a game-changer in the world of nanny services. Parents can now stay connected with their nannies throughout the day, receiving updates on their child's activities, meals, and overall well-being. This constant flow of information can be relieving and comforting for many parents who are now just a message away from being informed about their child's day.

Furthermore, technology has made it easier for nannies to connect with other professionals in their field. Online forums and social media groups provide a platform for nannies to share experiences, seek advice, and stay up-to-date with the latest childcare trends and best practices. This sense of community not only fosters professional growth, but also ensures that nannies are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the highest quality of care.

In conclusion, the evolution of nanny services has been shaped by the changing dynamics of families and the advancements in technology. Nannies have embraced their expanded role, taking on additional tasks to support the overall functioning of the household. With the help of technology, they have access to a wide range of resources that enhance their ability to provide excellent care. As society continues to evolve, it is likely that the role of nannies will continue to adapt and grow to meet the ever-changing needs of families.

Current Trends in Nanny Services

One of the most significant trends in the nanny industry is the rise of nanny sharing. Nanny sharing allows families to split the cost of a nanny while maintaining personalized care for their children. This trend provides a cost-effective solution for families and also fosters social interaction and companionship for the children involved.

Nanny sharing has become increasingly popular in urban areas where families often live in close proximity to one another. By sharing a nanny, families save money and create community. Children who participate in nanny sharing often develop strong bonds with their nanny and the other children, creating a unique support system for both the children and their parents.

Additionally, there is an increasing demand for specialized nannies. Families are seeking nannies with expertise in specific areas such as early childhood education, special needs care, or languages. Specialized nannies can provide tailored support and guidance to meet the unique needs of each child.

For example, families with children who have special needs require nannies who have experience and training in providing specialized care. These nannies are equipped with the knowledge and skills to support children with developmental delays, physical disabilities, or medical conditions. They work closely with therapists, doctors, and educators to ensure that the child's needs are met and that they are given every opportunity to thrive.

Similarly, families who value education and language acquisition are seeking nannies who can provide enriching experiences for their children. These specialized nannies may have backgrounds in early childhood education or be fluent in multiple languages. They engage children in educational activities, promote language development, and expose them to different cultures and traditions.

Furthermore, the demand for specialized nannies extends beyond specific skills and qualifications. Families are also seeking nannies who align with their parenting philosophies and values. Some families may prefer nannies who follow a certain parenting approach, such as Montessori or attachment parenting. By finding a nanny who shares their beliefs and values, families can ensure that their children receive consistent care and support.

In conclusion, the nanny industry is experiencing significant shifts in recent years. Nanny sharing and the demand for specialized nannies has increased. These trends reflect the evolving needs and priorities of modern families looking for personalized care.

Innovations in the Nanny Industry

The advent of nanny apps and platforms has revolutionized the way families connect with nannies. These digital platforms provide a convenient and efficient way to find, screen, and hire nannies. Families can browse through profiles, read reviews, and communicate with potential nannies, streamlining the hiring process.

Furthermore, professional nanny agencies have emerged as a trusted resource for families seeking high-quality childcare. These agencies carefully vet nannies, ensuring they meet stringent standards and possess the necessary qualifications and experience. Professional nanny agencies offer peace of mind to families by providing a pool of pre-screened, highly skilled nannies.

The Future of Nanny Services

In conclusion, the evolution of nanny services has been driven by changing family dynamics, technological advancements, and shifting demands. From their traditional role as caregivers to their expanded responsibilities in modern times, nannies have continuously adapted to meet the evolving needs of families. Current trends such as nanny sharing and specialized nannies reflect the desire for personalized and high-quality childcare. Innovations in the form of nanny apps and professional agencies have made it easier for families to connect with qualified nannies. Looking to the future, nannies will play an increasingly vital role in the education and overall development of children, while also integrating further into the fabric of the modern family.

This constant flow of information can be relieving and comforting for many parents who are now just a message away from being informed about their child's day

Furthermore, technology has made it easier for nannies to connect with other professionals in their field. Online forums and social media groups provide a platform for nannies to share experiences, seek advice, and stay up-to-date with the latest childcare trends and best practices. This sense of community not only fosters professional growth but also ensures that nannies are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the highest quality of care.
